The Etruscan beer of Birra del Borgo Brewery
Leonardo Di Vincenzo, Teo Musso and Sam Calagione have researched the ancient origins of beer making, recreating a remarkable beer recipe inspired by ancient fermented beverages.
Using ingredients decidedly unusual for beer (hazelnuts, pomegranates, natural resin, honey …) on the basis of archaeological finds, each brewery has chosen a different method of fermentation.
At Borgorose, their beer “L’ Etrusca” has been matured in large terracotta amphorae. The result is a real archaeological find. The opaque amber colour, reminiscent of amphora wines; The nose has hints of honey, red fruit and unusual mineral notes; In the mouth acidity is predominant, and again, honeyed notes are followed by mineral nuances.
