TERRACOTTA JARS FOR THE FERMENTATION AND PRESERVATION OF WINE
Terracotta Jars and amphorae, arriving with the Greeks and widely distributed in Italy by the Etruscans, were the first containers for wine fermentation.
Artenova, has brought back what has been the oldest form of preservation of wine, by making jars in Impruneta clay of various shapes and sizes suitable for professional oenological use.
The close link between wine and terracotta is due to its extraordinary thermal insulation capacity, and especially that of the terracotta from Impruneta, which thanks to its unique, and by now famous, physical-chemical characteristics, allows the perfect preservation of wine. The amphorae are completed by a special locking system in stainless steel, allowing the complete isolation of the wine from oxygen.
The jars can be coated with beeswax or epoxy resins or left “Al Naturale” with no lining whatsoever.
The extraordinary resilience of Impruneta clay is another important feature that plays in favour of the use of clay as a container for the fermentation of wine.
A jar by Artenova, hand-made with Impruneta clay, if well maintained, can last forever.
